September 21 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY
On September 21, 2013, more than 25,000 people gathered at Farm Aid 2013 in Saratoga Springs, New York. The annual Farm Aid concert calls attention to the crucial importance of family farmers and the good food they grow for us and our families.
The music on the stage featured Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews, as well as Jack Johnson, Kacey Musgraves, Jamey Johnson, Amos Lee, and many more. A surprise appearance by 94-year-old Pete Seeger who led a sing-a-long of “This Land is Your Land” that brought the entire audience together as one voice.
Throughout the day, concertgoers streamed into the HOMEGROWN Village, taking part in interactive exhibits that informed people of farm and food issues including GMOs, fracking and organic farming. Concertgoers learned how to make their own cheese, grow their own mushrooms, and more.
Farm Aid’s HOMEGROWN Concessions® kept the hungry crowd satisfied with family farm food, including local roasted corn, organic burgers and hotdogs, fresh NY apples and even cotton candy made with maple syrup!
The message of Farm Aid 2013 was clear: Each and every one of us has a role to play in the movement for good food from family farms. Read on for more about the day, relive performances with our videos, and find out how you can be involved in Farm Aid’s mission to keep family farmers on the land.
