Help for Farmers

If you are a farmer who needs help

Call 1-800-FARMAID (1-800-327-6243), email Farmhelp@farmaid.org, or visit Farm Aid's Farmer Resource Network.

If you are a farmer dealing with disaster, the newly revised Farmers' Guide to Disaster Assistance, written by the Farmers' Legal Action Group, is a great resource. It includes an easy-to-use chart that provides an overview of federal disaster assistance for farmers and describes in plain language the rules for programs such as FEMA assistance, federal crop insurance, USDA's Non-Insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, and Emergency Loans from USDA's Farm Service Agency. You can download it free of charge at http://flaginc.org/topics/disaster.

HayliftJoel manages the Farm Aid Hotline and takes most of the calls and emails, and if he's unavailable anyone on the staff can help. If you can't reach us directly, help us help you by including in your phone or e-mail message your full name, location, and contact info. We'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Some people assume Farm Aid provides large grants and loans directly to farmers. In fact, we can't and never have. Our incorporation with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) prevents us from making grants or loans to any for-profit business, including farms. Instead, we fund farm support organizations of many kinds as part of our nation-wide, ever-expanding Resource Network. We can connect you to direct services of many kinds, including:

  • financial and credit counseling
  • legal advice
  • technical assistance
  • sustainable and organic transition support
  • new farmer support
  • disaster and emergency services
  • and much more

We will do our flat out best to help you find the assistance you need to support your farm and help it thrive.
