Join us in Washington, DC on December 5th for “Under Contract”

by Alicia Harvie

About 97% of the chicken consumed in the United States is raised by poultry growers under contract with giant poultry corporations. These farmers deserve to earn a fair living. But that’s out of reach for poultry farmers who work in an industry where the power of a few giant corporations leaves them trapped in a rigged marketplace, vulnerable to abusive business practices.

That’s why Farm Aid will #standwithfarmers in support of the Farmer Fair Practices Rules this coming Monday, December 5th, at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C. The event will include the premier screening of Under Contract, a documentary film that tells the story of contract poultry farmers, followed by a panel to examine the struggles of contract growers in the absence of the Farmer Fair Practices Rules. The panel will include brave contract growers willing to speak out, a group of and fair farm advocates and is hosted by U.S. Representative Chellie Pingree.

If you live in the DC area, we hope you’ll just us and the National Farmers Union, Rural Advancement Foundation International – RAFI, National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, Food & Water Watch, & National Family Farm Coalition as we stand up for contract growers.
