Resources for Ranchers Facing Wildfires in Texas and Oklahoma

While over a million acres have burned so far in the Texas Panhandle’s largest wildfire ever, local and state organizations are already springing into action to support ranchers in peril. The need is tremendous as thousands of cattle have perished and pasture land has been rendered useless. If you have been affected by this tragedy, please know that the folks here at Farm Aid are grieving with you. It’s heartening to witness the extraordinary stories of support already emerging from the communities affected.

As you prepare for recovery, a few critical steps will position you to fully benefit from your insurance claims and USDA disaster assistance programs as they come online. This Disaster Recovery Resources Guide from Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI) fleshes these steps out in detail. A key takeaway is to be sure to document all damage and losses with photos, videos and notes before any clearing or cleaning begins.

The resources listed below will hopefully further ease the process of recovery. Be sure to return to this site often as updates will be made as the situation unfolds.
