About our Apparel

At Farm Aid, we carefully balance doing the right thing with keeping our prices low. Our 2009 concert t-shirts were donated by Anvil Knitwear, Inc., a 130-year old American company and a leader in the sustainable apparel industry. This year’s Farm Aid t-shirts are made from eco-friendly fibers such as certified organic cotton, transitional cotton (or cotton in conversion from conventional to organic farming methods) and polyester made from recycled plastic bottles from US recycling facilities.

Transitional Cotton: What is it, and why does it matter?
Transitional Cotton is grown on land that recently converted from conventional to organic farming methods. For cotton to be certified organic, the soil in which it’s grown must be free of chemical and synthetic pesticides and fertilizers for three years. This can be a difficult period for cotton farmers because they face an increase in production costs but can’t sell the cotton at a premium since it’s not yet certified organic. Buying a Farm Aid t-shirt made with Cotton in Conversion is a great way to support farmers making the switch, and encourage more to do the same.

All of our t-shirts are a masterpiece from the design, to the printing, to the quality of shirts we print on. Each year our shirts are printed at Mirror Image, an award-winning print shop.
