Farmers and eaters fought for more than a decade to get Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) for our food. In 2008, we finally won the right to know where our food comes from and today, thankfully, we can identify which country most of our meat, fruit and vegetables come from.
But major food companies and corporate meatpackers keep trying to eliminate these labels. We have a right to know where our food was produced!

Farmers and eaters need COOL to ensure transparency and make informed choices about what we’re eating. But meatpackers and food processors are pushing Congress to weaken or eliminate these common-sense labels, saying they hurt their profits. Meanwhile, a new ruling from the World Trade Organization (WTO) is attacking COOL as a “trade barrier,” because eaters may choose to purchase more locally produced foods, rather than foods shipped from the other side of the world.
We need to take action now to preserve our right to know where our food is from.

President Obama campaigned to protect COOL in 2008 and his Administration defended these labels against corporate attacks for several years. But that support is waning. Recently, the White House has not stood up for COOL in the face of widespread, often deceptive attacks by big corporations. We need to demand that President Obama defend our right to know and tell Congress that he won’t sign any legislation that undermines, weakens or eliminates COOL.
